Plimsoll Marks
The ship we sailed was strong enough we thought
To hold the cargo, love, up in the hull.
The ship was packed so tight the ropes were taut
Against the dock; they twisted while she pulled.
Despair slipped between barrels, box and crate
And filled what empty spaces there remained
Still safely you and I sailed through the gate
Our honest hopes for love remained unfeigned
Our smiles slowly drooped and with them sunk,
Below the marks, the ship we thought could float
Under all trials’ weight packed in the trunk.
But plimsoll’s lines beneath, no longer wrote.
Now here we sit deserted on this isle
All passion we once owned drowned is this wile
Lost
It feels so empty not to want you near.
The hole in my well worn heart was once filled
With paper mache memories, up until
A fire caught on every gray, stained tear.
The embers twitch and fly away in fear
Not gone or ripped but tinged and frayed they mill
Around the room halfheartedly until
They fall, a silent echo my heart hears.
How many times a stained glass window break
And eraser marks strewn crossed life and page
Until the picture permanently blurred
Is ruined, shot, failed. Repair can’t make
The colors, leaked and shattered in my rage,
The sound of ending muffled, love unheard.
So there you have it, my thoughts as a 21 year old. gee wiz.
